Het Planetarium Eise Eisinga is een wetenschapsmuseum in de stad Franeker in de Nederlandse provincie Friesland. Centraal staat een planetarium dat werd gebouwd door Eise Eisinga (1744-1828) tussen 1774 en 1781. Aangedreven door een slingeruurwerk geeft het astronomisch uurwerk sinds de voltooiing in 1781 de actuele positie van de planeten aan via de plafondwijzerplaat en is hiermee het oudste werkende planetarium ter wereld. Op 19 september 2023 werd het Eise Eisinga Planetarium als dertiende object van Nederland toegevoegd aan de Unesco werelderfgoedlijst. France: Volcanoes and Forests of Mount Pelée and the Pitons of Northern Martinique

The global significance of Mount Pelée and Pitons du Carbet is based on its representation of volcanic features, materials and processes. The 1902-1905 eruption is considered a key event for the history of volcanology causing a dramatic impact on St. Pierre town, resulting in a tragic loss of life, and a legacy that remains part of the culture of Martinique. The serial property is home to globally threatened species such as the Martinique Volcano Frog (Allobates chalcopis), the Lacépède’s Ground Snake (Erythrolamprus cursor), and the endemic Martinique Oriole (Icterus bonana). Canada: Tr’ondëk-Klondike

Located along the Yukon River in the sub-arctic region of Northwest Canada, Tr’ondëk-Klondike lies within the homeland of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation. It contains archaeological and historic sources that reflect Indigenous people’s adaptation to unprecedented changes caused by the Klondike Gold Rush at the end of the 19th century. The series illustrates different aspects of the colonization of this area, including sites of exchange between the Indigenous population and the colonists, and sites demonstrating the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in’s adaptations to colonial presence. Tunesia: Djerba: Testimony to a settlement pattern in an island territory

This serial property is a testimony to a settlement pattern that developed on the island of Djerba around the 9th century CE amidst the semi-dry and water-scarce environment. Low?density was its key characteristic: it involved the division of the island into neighbourhoods, clustered together, that were economically self-sustainable, connected to each other and to the religious and trading places of the island, through a complex network of roads. Resulting from a mixture of environmental, socio-cultural and economic factors, the distinctive human settlement of Djerba demonstrates the way local people adapted their lifestyle to the conditions of their water-scarce natural environment. We bezochten Djerba en logeerden er tijdens een rondreis in 1976.

Indonesia: The Cosmological Axis of Yogyakarta and its Historic Landmarks

The central axis of Yogyakarta was established in the 18th century by Sultan Mangkubumi, and has continued from that time as a centre of government and Javanese cultural traditions. The six kilometre north-south axis is positioned to link Mount Merapi and the Indian Ocean, with the Kraton (palace) at its centre, and key cultural monuments lining the axis to the north and south that are connected through rituals. It embodies key beliefs about the cosmos in Javanese culture, including the marking of the cycles of life. Tijdens een rondreis waren we in 1981 indit gebied en bezochten we het Kraton.

Ukraine: Odessa (Ukraine) toegevoegd als werelderfgoed

Het nieuws van eind januari 2023 weet te melden dat UNESCO het historische centrum van Odessa in Ukraine heeft toegevoegd aan de lijst van werelderfgoederen. We bezochten dit mooie centrum in september 2013 tijdens een excursie vanaf de Pacific Princess waarmee we een cruise maakten van Athene naar Rome via de Zwarte Zee. We misten er de haven van De Krim omdat we daar door de harde wind niet binnen konden komen.

Om toch een beetje reispret te hebben, heb ik weer een paar oude plakboeken omgezet naar fotoboeken. De foto's zijn gescand en de mooie gebruik ik weer als kerst-, verjaardags- of beterschapskaartje. De rest gaat weg. Scheelt een hoop ruimte.

Het gaat om een boek New York & Bermuda en een boek China, Macau, Maleisie en Singapore. Allemaal lang geleden.

Omdat het toch nuttig is een beetje bezig te blijven en leuk is om reizen her te beleven maar weer een paar multomappen met foto's verwerkt tot fotoboeken. Een aardige klus met een leuk resultaat. Wat overblijft is een doos oud papier. De boeken staan bij de Links (aan de rechterkant dus).
